12mm ACW fight on hexed terrain
« on: May 05, 2018, 09:47:29 PM »
Linked to a previous post, that sees a scenario for the tabletop developed from a situation occuring in just two hexes in a boardgame.

The transfer plays on a 12 x 9 grid (kitchen table stuff) and involves two brigades against a single stronger one.

Very nice!   What figures are you using?  Kallistra?

Thanks, yes they are Kallistra, which at 12mm and to my eyes have a good balance between using a small scale for mass, but still being able to enjoy the figure in a way that original 15's did/do. They are not compatible with anything else, but their range is complete, so I am OK with that.

This has been fascinating, this bit of a boardgame converted into wargames....much enjoyment had by this reader and much food for thought.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :

figures painted: 57

Thank  you for supporting the blog. Yes, I have been quite taken by how this thing has developed and the spin offs that fall from it. I spent much of today doing a rules rewrite, going further than I had intended, so for my wargaming month, this just feels like the gift that keeps on giving. Cheers Norm.

Norm, Have you refought this with the revised rules (from the discussion)?
I am looking at similar situations for 2mm ACW and am interested to see how your new ideas worked.

No and I should, simply to help benchmark the effects of changes. I have been significantly involved in a commercial ruleset for WWII tactical over the last few weeks, so everything else has been somewhat squeezed out.

I would really like to try the rules out with the scenario 'Fox Gap' that Jonathan Freitag wrote for the system, it is more traditional in nature, has a wider front to attack across and surprising the small order of battle includes infantry, artillery and cavalry, so a wider range of the rules is put to test.
