looking for Iran-Iraq war figures in 15mm
« on: May 10, 2018, 11:29:41 AM »
I was thinking of playing some games set around this war in 15mm. Can anybody tell me what Peter Pig packs might be suitable?
I was thinking Russian helmets with AK47 for the Iraqi troops but not sure about the Iranians. I had wondered about just using Vietnam Americans.

For the Iraqi, I prefer the FOW egyptians, they are better in my humble opinion. Said that... I have also PP painted as Iraqi. I used packs 62, 63, 65, and 60 from the AK47 range.

for the Iranians I do not think Vietnam war americans are any good. The main weapons were the German G-3  and the MG-3 and they tended to look more like West German infantry with desert themed uniform. QRF or FOW modern west Germans are the best, if not the only, choice here. From the AK-47 maybe you can steal pack 37, but other than that I am afraid the only option would be using the professionals with head swaps... for a decent size force it is a chore, and still you will not have the MG...

Hi Arrigo
Thanks for that.
I was hoping to get an order away to Peter Pig before the price increase, which is why I was asking.
Will get some of those packs and then look out for some Cold war West Germans.

Under Fire Miniatures very definately approves of this thread, especially Ash's painting of the FAPLA troops.

Terrible thread resurrection I know but.
Noticed that battlefront are about to bring out a campaign book for Team yankee called oil wars. Was quite intrigued as I am obviously interested in the era and region. The campaign involves a Soviet thrust to capture the Iraqi oil fields during the Iran/Iraq war. Looking at the future releases was pleased to see Iranian and Iraqi infantry.

and if you dig around the various previews... there will be also an Iran-Iraq section in the book. Not that it will be such final reference... but at least they are bringing out miniatures (but the wrong Chieftain!).  lol
