Vallejo colours for Dunsterforce?
« on: May 10, 2018, 08:32:36 PM »
Looking for some suggestions on the best Vallejo colour choices to paint British and Indian infantry, and Indian cavalry for that matter.  Any thoughts please?

Thanks
Sir Rodney

90 views and no suggestions!  :'(

However, that fine chap Mark Hargreaves (Over Open Sights) has produced some excellent painting guides for the Great War which are available for free on request. Mark has kindly sent me copies of the two guides which relate to my query, so I have my answer.

Unfortunately few things in life are truly free and a price did have to be paid. I am now haunted by photos of Mr Hargreave's excellent brushwork and the certainty that my own humble efforts will not come close to matching it.

I have a receipt back home, based on the troops carrying standard British kakhi drill, which seems to be true for most of them.

Some attention at last, thanks chaps!

My second post wasn't looking for the sympathy vote as such; I thought with so many views but no answers others might be interested in Mark's excellent painting guide.

Rodney,
There are multiple groups working on Dunsterforce campaigns on the Back of Beyond Gaming group on Facebook. I am sure that you can get help on your needs there.

I like a base of Iraqi Sand highlighted with Buff for Khaki drill.

Sorry, but all my figures for WWI were out-sourced for painting. I've been too busy writing The Miniatures Adventures of Dunsterforce scenario book. ;-)

That said, for khaki I've used the desert/khaki Army Painter primer, used a medium ton wash, then went back and used the Army Painter khaki paint, with a tan (with a hint of white) highlight.

Hope that helps.,

Bob
