Small Scratch Builds for The Sudan
« on: May 12, 2018, 12:56:05 AM »
My close friend Mike loves to scratch build and is quite good at it.  We try to get together once or twice a month for what we call Arts&Crafts, where we work on our gaming projects while solving the world’s problems and listening to music.  During one of our A&C sessions I mentioned that I’d seen photos of 25mm and 54mm scale versions of the abandoned boiler that was found at the 2nd Battle of El Teb and how I’d like to have one in 15mm.  Lo and behold, Mike whipped one up:

Hail to the King, baby.

Nice model of the boiler - though quite a large boiler, especially for the Sudan.  I was a navy man and worked in the engine room - that model could 'power' a small destroyer.  But it works.

Really like the terrain piece in the photo.

If you check out the Prior sketch it is based on, the size is about right, I think. It had actually powered a sugar refinery, and had a bunch of Beja hiding inside it. So I'd tell your boys to watch out there, Ragbones. :)

Nice one!

Thanks, Plynkes. The sketch by Prior and subsequent renderings by other contemporary artists are what we went by.

Yes, bunches of Fuzzies were lurking in that thing during the battle. Can you imagine what the temperature would have been inside? Bloody tough bunch, those Hadendowa...
