Rorke's Drift in 28mm - Options?
« on: May 13, 2018, 04:12:29 PM »
Hi All,

I'm currently feeling the tug of doing a small Zulu War project in 28mm. One of the things I'd most like to do is the famous defense at Rorke's Drift. Are there any options besides those offered by Warlord (which seem a little expensive - and fiddly to assemble)?

Some would simply go ahead and build it themselves but this definitely isn't my skill set. Are there any other options? Rather surprised I'm not seeing much!

Thank you for any help!

Redoubt Enterprises do both main buildings, I believe. If you don't like the price of the Warlord ones these will make you have a conniption fit,  but I don't think they require assembly. Can't speak to how nice they are, as I don't own them.

The Redoubt set is a nice one - probably best seen in action over at the ‘Wargaming with Silver Whistle’ blog. But I’d still use the Warlord mealie bag and wagon barricades with them.

Just looked at the Redoubt offerings. Those are lovely, and the price doesn't bother me too much. I suppose it's the assembly that was giving me pause. Thanks very much for the tip!

I certainly think the Warlord deal is better and dead easy to build....

Hmmm, dead easy you say? I was worried it wouldn't be. Right then, keeping options open. Your set-up looks marvelous, by the way - hugely inspiring!

Could always make your own...I think Matakishi's site had step by step construction plans  for his own versions of the buildings.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

Yup.   1/2" Foam board, tacky glue, acrylic paint, exact and spackle is all you need.   When I built a 28mm one for a friend, I used coconut fiber sheets for thatched roof

I would personally go for the Warlord I love I know it's only MDF, but they are great set of buildings, especially with all the other stuff like the mealie bags etc

Do they come with a good, clear set of instructions? (I ask this after several bitter experiences - each seasoned with generous helpings of colourful language - at putting together other items that didn't.)

Could always go for faster cheaper option with 1/72 20mm Italeri Rorke's Drift like this one: https://www.emodels.co.uk/italeri-1-72-battle-of-rorke-s-drift-6114-diorama-set.html
