Roebucks First Spartans at Cowpens
« on: May 14, 2018, 10:18:13 AM »
This is Roebucks' First Spartans, as they appeared on the SC Militia Line, at Cowpens. The First Spartans were placed on the right side of the SC Militia. Next to them, were the smallest of the SC Militia units, Thomas' Brigade. Both together, formed the Spartanburg Battalion.
These were experienced fighters, who had served under Pickens in the SC backcountry. Morgan plan required them to get off two shots and then retreat behind the Continentals, to a designated rallying point. That's why I used the flag, to signify where the rallying place was. Historically, they only fired once before retreating behind the Continentals in an orderly fashion.  The highly disciplined Regulars, perfectly executed a maneuver, that opened the Continental line to allow the the militia to pass through with minimum confusion. The Spartans rallied behind the Continentals and rejoined the battle just as Morgan planned.

The First Spartans march out to their assigned position and prepare to fire.

Figures are Perry Southern Militia, painted by John Bryant.
The flag is a Flag or War, that I repainted.
I did the basing.
