But I think those macaques only figured out that lounging in a hot tub is more fun than shivering in the snow in the 20th Century. Took them long enough. Stupid monkeys.

It's a rather lovely build. There was a recent video game called Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun (can they never resist having two titles separated by a colon, these computer game people?). If you ever played the old PC classic Commandos it is basically the same stealth gameplay, but based in Feudal Japan with Ninjas and Samurai instead of WW2 with Commandos and spies. Anyway, there's a mission where you have to assassinate a bad guy in one of these places. And it looks very much like the one you are building. So even if you don't know what a Sengoku period spa looked liked, you can take some solace from the fact that if you have got it wrong at least you have company. :)

Started work on the walls. They are a simple ita bei (board fence). The only trick bit will be building them around the stones around the spring but I'll deal with that when I come to it  :)

Tidy job. When the fence hits the stones what about stepping the fence up and hiding the gap with a fern in the rocks.

That’s not a bad idea. Either that or bamboo (such a small area shouldn’t be a problem).

Thanks chaps  :)

Got the fences done for the whole compound. They are now being painted and once done and stuck down I'll commence with the groundwork.

Do you know why they used what is quite a complicated fence structure?

Because they're awkward buggers  lol

It's a type of decoration I think along with prestige "Ooo, look what we can afford fence wise" or words to that effect.
