A little corner of Mordheim.
« on: May 17, 2018, 05:35:52 PM »
Hi all, I’ve been missing from these illustrious halls of inspiration of late. Something I hope to remedy. To herald my return I thought I’d share something I have been working on.

A couple of months ago I decided I needed a better backdrop for taking photos of my Mordheim miniatures, something more appropriate than the oldhammer paper buildings I usually use.

So I set to making a corner of Mordheim and yesterday I finally finished painting it.

That’s the next step! I hope to work on some 12”x12” sections of the city that are modular very soon. Just need to get some more blue foam.

Really nice!  Immersive picture backdrops are on my bucket list and have moved up almost to the top. I really like pictures of figures in their world such as those this guy John Morey takes: https://www.flickr.com/photos/74529773@N07/.  Do take some pictures with night time stage lighting.

Looks great.  I saw your Facebook posts as well.  If possible, could you cut and paste your "how to" info from the FB post into this thread? One of the many issues with FB posts is that it's hard to go back and find stuff later when looking for tips and inspiration.
So many games, so little time.

Thanks. And good idea.

Here are the tips I offered out copies straight from FB so apologies for them being a jumble of words:

The only WIP photos I have are these. As for tips. I used scrunched up tin foil rolled over the foam to get texture on stone wall, cobble street and muddy street. Scored the brick and cobble design with a pen. On the plaster wall I used polystyrene cement to melt the foam and cause some damage, did the same on the road and cobble pavement. I used wood filler and a damp brush to add texture in places and to build up piles of debris in the corners. Everything was coated in watered down pva and sand sprinkle on the road.

The texture was done on the blue foam by using a scrunched up ball of tin foil rolled all over it, I then did a few spots of polystyrene cement TK melt away the foam to make it look like damaged plaster. Then I used a few patches of wood filler and water to add more texture then pva all over and whilst this was wet sprinkled a few patches of fine sand for yet more texture. The whol diorama was basecoats with a chocolate brown craft paint. The plaster was then done using GW paints (I wouldn’t recommend doing a full terrain piece with these) Steel Legion drab and dryad bark. These weren’t mixed fully patches were out on randomly and then a mix of both blended whilst both paints were wet. When dry I stippled on Karak stone, ushabti bone then finally screaming skull. Each successive drybrush of these got closer to the centre of each panel leaving a dark rim near the beams.

Thanks for the tips, and yes, that is  a really nice setup for photos.

Jealous, both of your abilities, and of the scenery, as I doubt I will have space for anything like that for some time, or the ability to make it  ::)

Or time..

But nice to see it.

oh and your miniatures they are never bad to look at either

Evening all. Just finished painting this Witch Hunter to join the other two and their freelance mate. At this rate I might have a Warband by the years end.
