Love the way you have deployed the ivy.  It certainly gives the impression of an abandoned or even slighted building.   :-* :-*

However I have to agree with James about it needing a few small bushes or trees to make it look completely overgrown.

Or what about just more ivy? Part of it could be COMPLETELY covered.

But perhaps not so suitable for Osgiliath?

For bushes, have you looked at these from the Model Tree Shop?

https://www.themodeltreeshop.co.uk/shrubs-bushes.html

I’m on the mobile site looking at those, are they really £15 for two?
cheers

Thanks guys. Appreciated.

TBH Gary, I’m not aiming for a completely overgrown look. Partly because if the building was completely overgrown then so would be the rest of the table, which would mean a lot of trees and shrubs. I’m also aiming for something not completely at odds with the movie depiction, which IIRC was almost devoid of vegetation. But I agree, if I was aiming for completely overgrown then colonising trees and shrubs would be the way to go.   Much the same applies to the ivy Charlie. As your picture shows if it were completely overgrown the walls would be covered with sheets of the stuff. I’ve gone for the minimum amount I’m content with, simply not to obscure too much blockwork and because it is expensive.  :D

Strangely, I hadn’t considered them and they’re very nice. Strangely, because I have had a fair number of trees from the same place!  I’ve switched over to Noch Profi trees for this project and those bushes might just work with them . Thanks.  :D

Much appreciated chaps. :D

When I looked earlier I thought I read £15 for 10 pieces.

Yes, after further exploration it is £15 for ten. Not bad really. I might have to get some  :)

They are quite pricey still at £15 for ten, but they are very good. I have some in dark green and some 'red' ones. The red ones are really good, the added colour is fantastic, makes the green ones look rather boring. I think I'm gonna order some yellow ones someday soon.

These are the Type D ones, 20-30mm tall and 20mm wide.

Thanks folks - much appreciated  :)

I’d call it a shared journey rather than a tutorial  :D.

TBH I logged progress as I have other buildings to make idc and I’ll extract what I’ve posted here into a PDF as a reminder.

Re: Decrepit Monastery/Osgiliath UD 25/6 .... Adding a tree .......
« Reply #161 on: June 25, 2018, 11:43:56 AM »
So I sought opinion, I listened, I considered, I reflected, I researched ..... and yes there will now be a tree  :D

I couldn’t find one I like for the job, so I’m making it. Nothing new in the approach, it’s just a bunch of twisted wires protruding from a short length of styrene tube. I was going to cover it with Milliput but I’ve used flour and superglue (a job for gloves and ventilation- NOT recommended) to secure the joins and it seems stiff enough to go straight to a skim of GS.

It’s going to be a Sweet Chestnut and I shall leave the crown accessible so I can position a Gondorian Ranger in it.

Yep  :D

That’s a very good tutorial btw, though I might use rubberised horse hair rather than sisal.
