That’s a very good question.

I’m contemplating making a leaf-shaped cutter from tube then punching them out of either paper or .25mm styrene sheet. I’m leaning towards paper as I can curl that slightly and fix the shape with thin superglue. Will experiment in due course.

There are companies that supply laser cut leaves but knowing what you’re like that’s not an option  lol

You could also use very teased out capoc for the smaller branches and then cover those with the chosen flock/leaf type.
cheers

The capoc is a great idea. I’ll think about laser cut leaves but most I’ve seen as the wrong size.  :D

Edit:
Actually there are some  very nice in-scale leaves available but I just can’t find Sweet Chestnut .

Slapped some GS onto the tree armature. When it’s cured I’ll shave some parts back a bit. I still need to solve the Sweet Chestnut leaf problem.

Just out of curiosity, why gs and not some normal ready mixed spreadable filler?

Another option for paper leaves are commercial punches.  I have picked up a couple of these and they work very well.  It might not help for the exact type of leaf but it is a pretty good option.

It is either that or scan in the chestnut shape and have some laser cut it to size and number of copies that you need.
Hope that gives you another idea or two.

Cheers Snitchy. Great tips. I’ve not seen the leaf punches before and they are nifty. 8)

And they do roof tile punches as well. That would be great with plasticard if it is strong enough to cut.

Thank you! Great news! I shared this with some friends!

Yep, the punches do look useful . So much so that I’ve ordered the Big Branch version.

It’s a bit of an experiment but the cutter produces  branches 25mm long. I’m hoping that if I snip off the top half the remaining 12.5mm has leaf sizes that I guesstimate at 4-6mm. Sweet Chestnut leaves are up to 20cm in length, which at 1/56 is 4mm. I’m thinking that I can cut them from green paper before tacking on with superglue then washing with dilute PVA before painting. We shall see!

The tree, refined:

It’s tempting to paint it before attaching the small branches with leaves but then I’d be supergluing to paint rather than to structure.

Use emulsion glue and not super glue then there won’t be a problem.

Emulsion glue will penetrate through the acrylic paint and undercoat to bond to the structure?
