Looking really good so far. Wondered about adding more ruined floor remnants to the outer walls to make it a more defensible perimeter?

It’s a very good question.  :D

My take on it is that it’s just part of a bigger urban area (there will be more buildings) that wasn’t designed as a fortress. I have contemplated adding removable wooden scaffolds and barriers that could be suggestive of later defensive additions though I doubt I’ll get round to it until I need them for a game.  :)

Great build!  :-* :-* Love the layout with lots of passageways, nooks and crannies but also large open areas. And that arch...what an arch. Really gives the impression this was once a majestic place. Looking forward to more.

Fair enough. You may just want the option to use it as a stand alone objective? So maybe just a few floor remnants in the corners?

Thanks folks -much appreciated  :)

With it having been derelict for hundreds of years there won’t be any fancy plaster or other surface decoration surviving - I’m thinking vines.

So maybe just a few floor remnants in the corners?

It has vaulted ceilings which without counter pressure will have collapsed so I’m not so keen on corner  remnants that would have to be big enough to accommodate a 25mm dia base. Also, even for remnants I’d  have to add extra height to some corners, which I’m reluctant to as it would reduce access to some parts (1/1 hands etc). Thanks for the suggestions though.   :)

I think that the Osgiliath of the movies is a little too ‘ordered’ and ‘clean’, which is why I’ve gone for displaced blockwork and much ivy.

This is a Chinese village abandoned for merely 25 odd years and there is significant greening:

For detailed thoughts on the ivy choice see here:

https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=109976.0

Though this post is the most pertinent:

Thanks all folks

TBH I don’t think that I’d be able to make ivy as effective as the Warlord Poison Ivy that I’ve used before. I couldn’t find anything by Noch but in searching for I did discover Mininatur/Silflor Summer Ivy.

I did think the Warlord product expensive for the amount provided (it no longer seems to be available) and there’s  an interesting comparison of the Warlord and Sliflor products here:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?index=20&v=d8WRXILPCRs&list=PLIlgWKnZjO4zCpXJ_TlQQrAOWh8vicCQl

I ordered a large pack:

https://www.modeldisplayproducts.co.uk/scenic-materials-and-accessories/mininatursilflor/foliage/MiniNatur-Summer-Ivy-936-22

Which is also available as a smaller pack (but I think I’ll need a lot!):

https://www.modeldisplayproducts.co.uk/mininatursilflor/summer-ivy-small

Btw, it can be a bit confusing because there are large packs and small packs for both large leaf ivy and small leaf ivy. The large leaves seem to be suggested for scales of 1/45 and bigger so I’ve gone for the small (I believe code 936-22 or code 936-22s). Note that in the video review above the large pack is marked 936-32 and 1:45+, so it would seem to have the larger leaves (screenshot attached below).

Great Escape Games also carry 936-32s and 936-22s but don’t seem to have the larger packets.

The ivy has arrived and is, I think, very good:

And here against the colours I think I’ve decided on (though the blockwork will also get green and brown washes):

The colours for the limestone are all VMC:

1) Grey Green
2) Sky Grey
3) Approx 75% White and 25% Sky Grey

Looks so real!  :-*
Adds colour and emphasises the age of the structure!
