At first I was a bit shy to suggest this, fearing that if the ivy leaves were too brittle, if you tried to dry brush them they could be transformed to troll droppings

Be assured that I value all suggestions. Even though I don’t use every suggestion, I still appreciate the interest and effort.

It’s taken about a month but is now complete. Just a reminder that it measures approx 60cm x 40cm x 23cm tall and will serve historical as well as fantasy (H/LotR) projects.

I’ll be making a few more items but they’ll be posted in the Middle Earth project thread (in Fantasy) as they won’t be multi genre.

With painting completed the vegetation was added, starting with the ivy, which was tacked in place with UHU clear glue. The upper leaves were drybrushed with VMC Olive Green.

Atop and within the walls and rubble piles I added small straw-coloured  tufts (Mordheim Turf by Citadel). I then added, including to the ground, an ad hoc mix of 6mm tufts by Gamers Grass, using Light Green and Mixed Green, from both the Small and the Wild packs. The flock that followed  is a mix of 4 pinches of Javis Static Grass No.2 Summer Mix 2mm (JHG2) to 1 pinch of Woodland Scenics Coarse Grass Burnt Grass (T62) and 1 pinch of Woodland Scenics Coarse Grass Yellow Grass (T61), with excess brushed away after drying.

I will likely add the odd separately-based tree depending on scenario etc, probably Birch for most games and Palms for pirate actions.

Excellent build,been an interesting journey from blueprint to finished product 
The ivy and the tufts are the cherry and icing on the cake too,finishing touches that make the model really look complete.

I did think about it but “hand space” is tight for permanent large trees and there aren’t any saplings available in the type I’m using for this project.  A couple of scrubby bushes would be good but to be honest, I’ve yet to add any small bushes to this terrain set as I haven’t found any to buy or a way of making them that gives me quite what I want.  More positively, if I ever find what I want they’ll be easy to add.
