Seven Years War: British in Europe

Looking at SYW as a new project but can’t find more than a few British regiments involved in the European Theatre, is this right? Not interested in the wider war (just yet anyway).

There were 12 infantry regiments (battalions), which included 3 guards and 2 Highlanders. In addition, there were two combined grenadier battalions.

Check Project Kronoskaf. In the section for the British Army, you can find a list of the regiments in the SYW and where they fought -if they did- in the war.

Project Kronoskaf is excellent - and the owner is based her in Montreal :-).

There was a recent reprint of His Britannic Majesty's Army In Germany During The Seven Years War by Sir Reginald Savory which gives a good account of the British and allied forces in Europe.

Perhaps I am missing something, but I don't see were Kronoskaf lists the regiments that served in Germany.

Perhaps I am missing something, but I don't see were Kronoskaf lists the regiments that served in Germany.

You need to click in the regiment to see where it served.

For instance:

http://www.kronoskaf.com/syw/index.php?title=20th_Foot

http://www.kronoskaf.com/syw/index.php?title=23rd_Foot

By the way, in the service records of the regiments you can find links to other units that served in the same theater. Thus, in the record of the 20th you can find direct links to the 12th, 51st, 25th and 87th Highlanders, with which the 20th was brigaded at Minden, Klosterkamp or Vellinghausen.

Or you could check British Battles website:

Do what I did...ignore history. Lots in WAS, but not a lot elsewhere.

I believe the British Army in Europe was 20,000 men. With more being in the America's
Just followed one of the Orders of battle from the Blandford book.  Then used the SYW website as above.  Now doing the other minor nations.  Great fun

Be aware that the British provided a moderate contingent in the Observation Army. Most of the troops were Hessians of various types and Brunswick troops, even some Prussian cavalry.
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss
