Aceh War (1873-1908)
« on: May 21, 2018, 03:32:32 AM »
Aceh was a independent sultanate in the northern Sumatra. In 1871 the Dutch and British signed a treaty which Britain gave up any rights to Sumatra freeing the Dutch to continue colonizing Sumatra. In 1873 the Dutch invaded Aceh to begin one of the longest colonial wars of the late 19th/early 20th century.Even after the sultanate made peace with the Dutch there were uprisings all the way into and even after WWII.I'm surprised that hardly anyone makes figures for this war (Tiger Miniatures has a small line). You have fierce natives and one of the lesser known colonial armies.I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in a range for this war.Facts are hard to come by in the English speaking world and hardly any books have been written in English but as someone who has a great interest in the lesser known wars/campaigns I find this war very interesting.
Mark.

Interesting one. Google search shows a good number of pictures.
Dutch uniforms seem to be similar to French.

There seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today...turn two points to port.

I've commissioned Steve Barber Models to do a few figures for this war.I'm hoping others get involved helping with knowledge of this little known war or commissioning a figure or 2  ;) Steve has the first one on his FB page.
All the best,
Mark

Yes it will be a nice range if we can get it going. I've seen the green of the officer and he looks great too.I can't wait to see the natives when he does them.

A fascinating conflict. Had thought about doing it in the past with Tiger minis but ultimately was a bit too disappointed in the minis when I bought some to pursue it. Maybe I will reconsider now.

Hopefully we can expand the range.I too was disappointed in Tiger's. I'm trying to sell what I have now.

I see Shipka has opened a thread on the Far East board showing a Green of one of the new figures. It maybe best to close this thread and focus on the other one?
