Halfling sizes comparison?
« on: May 13, 2009, 11:37:51 AM »
Hi all.

After painting the 24th Regiment of (Hairy) Foot the other month, I'm giving serious consideration to trying to finish my Halfling army.

But...

I was looking at getting some bits from Mirliton to bulk it out (the chariot, cannon and maybe the mounted scouts) and wondered how they would stack up next to my other figs, which are mainly Citadel.

The ones I already have cover everything from the old C-series, through the early-nineties Empire types and up to Lumpin Croop's regiment, bolstered by the Black Hat regiment, and a couple from Heresy and Hasslfree so there is a fair bit of variety already.

The Mirliton ones look taller and slimmer, but will most likely be used in seperate regiments etc so shouldn't pose too much of a problem (I hope) but if they are significantly larger, they may tower over the others too much and look proper stupid.

So, as I eventually get to the point - too big to mix, or not that different? Anybody know?

Cheers all!

JB

Maybe some of the halflings are two-thirdlings? Or three-eigthlings?

Yeah, possibly.

Was it Tolkein who had some of his hobbits described as "Tallfellows"? A few of them were big enough to ride ponies, anyway. (I may be thinking of some terrible bastardised version of hobits and halflings that I read in White Dwarf or a bloody awful Forgotten Realms book once over.)

I don't mind if the ones on the horses look a little taller, as that would make sense, but if I decide to mix some in with my militia regiment, will they look out of place?

...

Hold on boys, I've just had an idea....  ;)

No it just struck me that I can order a couple of singles off Doug at em4 and see if they match up before I decide to spring for the specialist packs from Mirliton.

So I just did, one halfling prince on a pony and a sword wielding adventurer on their way.

Sometimes you've just got to love the options disputed copyright gives you...   :D

I've never really been interested in Flintloque, these are just for my own nefarious purposes.

I always just liked the idea that in times of trouble, all the villages of the Moot would send out their militias and watchmen and any adventurous souls who cared to join them to fight off any aggressors. The idea of massed ranks of halflings, all equiped differently, no group looking the same just appealed. A real rag-tag, last ditch defensive measure from otherwise peaceful people. The sort of thing that the Shire would have fielded against Sharkey if they'd had a bit more warning....

Of course, this means that I will have to also complete my Snotling army to re-enact the ferocious Battle of Proudfoot's Five Acre Orchard.  ;)

Or maybe a punch-up between the East(-end) Farthing and the West Farthing...
After one too many in the Green Dragon. A Very Shire Civil War? Or have I just gone off on one of my tangents again?

Arrived today, excellent service from Doug as usual.  :)

And they look like they'd work just fine. I don't know whether to laugh or cry now.

Oh well that sounds like good news. I'd open a bottle of wine if I was you Bob, and think about it.

I see you have the same approach to project design as I do, Mr Carew.  lol

That explains why I never finish anything.

Ah, well I do spend alot of time thinking about doing stuff, though sadly not much time actually doing, uh, stuff. Many of my best ideas were seen through the bottom of a glass. That is, I think that they were good ideas - you get the picture

The Mirliton Halflings are old Grenadier Copplestone miniatures - the cannon looks very good.

If you are interested I have a couple of sets of Halflings (various manufacturers) that are for sale.  If you are looking to increase your regiments, PM me and I'll get some more information.
