First off, Han was bragging in ANH, in the context of negotiating passage with potential customers. He was not delivering an objective performance report in a court of law under penalty of perjury.

In the SOLO movie (which is by far and away the best Disney SW film), we see that his boast is based on a kernal of truth. The Falcon, as modified during the film, does in fact complete the Kessel Run in twelve parsecs ... thanks to the modification in question ... which did not have anything to do with the ship's speed rated merely as the amount of time it could move in a straight line between points A and B.

Also consider that hyperspace travel is probably not a matter of moving in straight lines per sublight travel. Accordingly, "speed" is a matter of how much time it takes for a vessel to safely jump from one place to another. In that sense, the Falcon's speed truly is a function of the computational power of its navigation system as opposed to its engines or whatever.

I enjoyed it.

As to where it fits in ...

The crime boss reveal mostly points towards a time post "the clone wars" cartoon (The Pyke syndicate, the Hutt Cartels and the rest of the shadow collective) and before Rebels begins.

So somewhere on the order of 5-10 years post ep3.  I figure Han has around 15-20 years on Luke in ep4 (Luke was 19).

Thanks for the info. I really did not know that the cartoon series stuff is 'canon' for Star Wars.

I thought that the addition of these guys into Imperial Assault was just a way to throw in some more characters (and make a few more dollars for FFG)  than any sort of 'official' thing.

Anyway, adding a character from the Phantom Menace was a good way to end the movie on something of a downer.

If you're referring to the character I think you are referring to (we see a hologram of him at the end?) then I too wondered about that because I thought he was dead as well.
Then I wondered whether it was actually him or perhaps another of his race.

So I Googled it.

It is him and it turns out he didn't die after all. Apparently, for those quick enough to spot it, you'll see that he has a robotic lower half.
In the comics/books/novels etc then it is explained he didn't die and is well known about by those truly obsessed with things Star Wars. For people like myself, who only watch the films, you wouldn't know. Which I didn't; so if you Google it like I did you can gen up on why he's still alive and why he's in Solo.

I saw it yesterday.

6.5/10 maybe a 7/10?

Pros:
+General feel for the first half of the movie was pretty good
+Initial settings were attractive, immersive
+Myra and Han weren't as poorly acted as I was expecting
+I really enjoyed Glover as Lando
+Chase scene and train scene were good
+Chewie was good

Cons:
-Last 1/3 dragged and wasn't nearly as interesting/cool/atmospheric as the rest of the film.
-Digital cameo was kind of unnecessary and felt forced.
-Definitely a few too many "wink wink" meme attempts.
-The ending scenes were pretty devoid of setting/atmosphere which was a shame...it felt like it ended on a lull.
-Always dislike bad guys unmasking into good guys, etc.  Why not give us some more real villains?
-Loss of several good characters way too early.

I guess I felt the movie was very backwards to me, with the best and most interesting parts up front, but it faded heavily as the movie carried on and I cared less and less toward the end.  It's not as good as Rogue One, but was more enjoyable/cohesive than Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

The movie was supposed to tell the back story of Han and it did exactly that.

I don't think it makes sense to expect something other than tying parts of the greater Star Wars storyline, universe, and characters together.

If you expected some kind of epic then I think you're applying the wrong criteria to what the movie was supposed to be.

I saw it on Saturday. I enjoyed it. Wasn't the best script. But overall better than TLJ by a wide margin. I enjoyed the focus on some parts of Han's early life. Some interesting scenes.

Thanks.

My 10 year old daughter went to see it. I haven't bothered watching anything Star Wars or superhero -related for many years now.  My life goes fine without it!

One of the things I liked was the non-stormtrooper battles and the gangsters and raiders.

Lots of model and gaming opportunities there.

ahhh 40k movie..
Unfortunately if we ever get one (and this is franchise with great potential IMHO, it will be new kids or "I am Cato Sicarius" kind of thing. (later might not be a bad thing if they do it in non pretentious way :)
