Still waiting the drying step from the other items......  :D

6 work on the hull

the start of the work on the bank of oars (what wasn't on the original ship)

May be drilled when dry from the hull's interior.

An excellent thread, will follow this with interest. Had thought about the playmobil galley but hadn’t taken the plunge - the deck looks a good size for a gaming piece.

In my case, I am mainly interested in Venetian and Ottoman galleys of the Renaissance, of which there are no decent tabletop examples. I suppose I will have to do something similar to this project.

May be but the renaissance's galleys are more sophisticated than the roman ones....isn't it
a lot of work indeed.

Cut a low hull of a playmobil 's pirate ship to get a "renaissance" look with a low waterline

before :

just like this simulation based on a playmobil picture (reworked with a photos software) to see the look that you can get

After :

it's change a lot its shape . Now just imagine the boat with oars, guns in the prow and full off ottoman soldiers. ;)

Renaissance Galleys really look nothing like either ancient ones or Renaissance sailing ships.
You'll have to build it from scratch, I suspect.

7 - Work on the hull

The bank of oars is now dry.
Then i add some small screws to prevent bad surprise during the work to come on the hull.

Take care to drill where the screw couldn't hamper the deck clips.

8 - Work on the deck 's rail

just saw them off (top and bottom of the original).
Good plastic mean easy job  ;)

Now the deck' rails are at the good scale for 28mm  :-*

Oh, I agree. I keep trying to push various 28mm ship manufacturers to produce one, but so far no takers.

This might not be a bad temporary substitute. Thanks.

9 - Work on the oars

the oars 'll be made with cocktail/barbecue sticks.

but with a little shapening job on them, with an angle grinder and a special brush disk (bought at ACTION store )

and the "before / after" pic (for test) :
