Once the oars go on I can see an issue with transporting the ship, I wonder if the oarbanks could have been secured to the hull with magnets?

I hope i can make the oars removable as i drill deep the portholes.

12 - Shaping the oars

the most boring of the work on the galley.
one by one, the "oars" are shape with a bench grinder to give them a good looking  ;)

here the heavy tool in action :

and the size test :

i have only 40 oars to shape   o_o o_o

This is a great project, I really like the creative use of coffee stirrers, its very inspiring as I've a bag of 1000 lying in a cupboard myself.

Don't panic, i'm still working on this project but i have nothing new to show you...

the oars shaping is qite long and boring if any. Nearly at the end of this endless step.
Need two rudders too  ;D

The rear sides are nearly done too but i have to glue few stirrers and then wait for drying. And so on.

Cheers
Eric

at last, i'm back in this topic with good news.

the oars work has been complete. i have to change the angle of the oars to give a better look to the galley.
I fill all the holes in the oars bank and repeat the drilling operation  o_o.

the prow is glue to the deck. the rear is nearly done.

the final result (for the moment) :

all the boat is sanded with a grinder's light disk to level all parts.

enjoy
Eric

I hate to say this now, but I'm sure I've had little wooden fellas exactly like those oars with some sort of canape thingy from a supermarket. It might have been Iceland or somewhere like that. EDIT: The missus informs me they have them in Sainsbury's as packs of toothpicks you can buy.

I have double warm feelings for this thread because, a) it looks superb and b) I used to love my Playmobil when I was a kid. I was obsessed. I don't think it's too far of a leap to say it was the start of my collecting habit. My brother and I played our first wargames with Playmobil toys in the garden (my 7th cavalry always did great execution).
