This is my second Star Wars project. The first was in 10mm and inspired by the Rogue One Scarif attack. This was stopped when I got contract to write a book about painting WW2 figures. The book took about 15 months to write from start to finishing handover to the publisher. Now that the book is at the layout stage, I want a change of subject. Star Wars Legion has recently been launched and the figures are very nice, so I have started a Star Wars project in 1/48 Scale. Star Wars Legion figures are about 35mm tall for a standard human.

Many years ago, back in 2011, I made an Afghan village for Force on Force from cigar boxes that I had been given. I decided to rework these as the basis for a Tatooine village such as Mos Eisley.

Here is a drone view of the table - 120cm (4ft) square to give you an idea of the plan.
The table will be about 120 cm square (4ft) but can be rearranged as 180cm x 90cm (6ft x 3ft).

I also want to use this project to experiment with new ideas such as 3D printed bits and MDF kits.
The houses are mostly cigar boxes that I was given many years ago.
These have added 3D printer greebles (doors, electrical bits, ventilators) from Corvus Games Terrain.
There are printed propaganda posters and this one will look like a mural when it is finished.
Most things are just attached with Blue-Tack at the moment.

New small 3D printed doors were specially made for me by Corvus Games Terrain. These are printed at 80% of their standard set.
The old buildings were made for 28mm so legion size doors were too big.

This tower contained a protein shake. The plastic dome came from a hobby shop.

The pipes are from Green Stuff World.

The buildings will be coated with wall filler (Polyfilla or spackle) and painted by stippling with shades of umber and sand colours.

There are several walls made from XPS foam (this is blue or pink in some countries).
This can be cut easily with a bread knife and a ruler.
Some parts will have brickwork showing through.

XPS foam wall sanded and roughly painted.

Multiverse Gaming MDF kits for crates and Vapour towers

Multiverse Gaming Crashed Spaceship

Here is a view of the whole thing from last weekend.

This weekend I started to add market stalls The left hand stall is plastic rod.
This was quite fiddly to get the frame to stay together at right angles while the Revell Contacta Glue set.
Right hand stall is XPS Foam with bamboo skewers. This was very quick and easy to build.
Both have paper canopies. The tubs, buckets, plates and jars are dolls house bits as is the Persian carpet.

There is still a lot to do. Everything has been built quickly and had a quick coat of paint but, after a few games, I will finish the textures and details.

Please comment and add suggestions.

Very cool tabletop. I must admit I like the 10mm versions slightly more, but your posters are awesome!

Thank-you everybody.

@Jim - I would need a 1/48 scale Millenium Falcon to do that.

@ Divismal - if you Google Star Wars Propaganda Posters or Star Wars Travel Posters, you will find loads of good stuff.

I'm not sure if it's still available, but Hasbro usdd to do a 1:50 one. Pictures on my blog - http://zemjw.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/hasbro-millennium-falcon.html

It is a big beast. I've been looking at Star Wars buildings myself recently, and there are quite a few desert ones that look promising.

Your Mos Eisley is coming along nicely, looking forward to borrowing some ideas  :D

Do you mean the Revell Easy Kit?

No, the Bandai one.

If this is the kit that you mean, at £300, it is rather out of my price range for scenery. It is very nice though.

I already have Millenium Falcon in 10mm (Action Fleet) and also in X-Wing scale (1/300?). The 10mm project is not dead, just dormant.

I will probably go for something else in Legion Scale such as an X-Wing or possibly the Hasbro U-Wing.

You could still do 94 without the Falcon  :)

I have a vague idea to use my existing 10mm figures and X wing ships to do higher level combat and then switch to Legion for resolving the infantry combat. I would possibly modify Rapid Fire for the 10mm battles.

This would mean that I could combine huge attacks involving several X-Wings, Tie fighters and AT-ATs at 10mm scale and then these act like off table artillery & airstrikes in Legion.

I have just ordered these 3D printed droids. This will be my first 3D printed figures.
