New to the mythos

Darksider:
Hi, this is my very first post here in this forum ;).

So as my thread titel says i am new to the mythos and i have no idea which way i should take (from a gaming perspective).

I am more a skirmish gamer, not so much an RPG player, but i like rpgs too=).

Call of Cthulhu RPG looks good, but i have only played some other RPGs a few times  (most of the time pathfinder and Iron Kingdoms RPG, but together i get maybe 5 Sessions of playtime).

I have Fear and Faith from Ganesha Games at home, is this a good ruleset for lovecraftian horror?

I also have two Cthulhu War Games and some expansions for it, do you think the miniatures will be good enough for RPG and Skirmish Games? I don't know if they fit the exact size, the creatures have in the books.

Any other recommendations for a beginner?  ;)

Greetings Darksider and welcome to the LA forums. Lots of really great and helpful people here. My go to Mythos game is Strange Aeons which also conveniently has a sub forum here to the CoC board. Skirmish with a little RPG thrown in, a nice line of miniatures to go with it plus the option to add any nice creature model you have in your collection to one of the "Lurker" profiles. And I also have the Cthulhu Wars games and in fact one of the reasons I got them was for the miniatures regardless if I play CW at all. Lot of great Mythos models out there and even more in the pipeline (Death May Die game upcoming.) Have a Fhtagn day! :D

Thank you for your answer =).

I don't know, i saw some reports on youtube about strange aeons and I don't know if it's really for me. I don't like the activation mechanic. Another problem is to get the book here in my country.

Yeah the miniatures from the cthulhu wars game are great. I have the first edition unfortunately, and some minis had some broken parts. I fixed them, but it was a bit of a let down.

Ordered the dagon model from reaper with some deep ones^^.

Thanks, you too ;).

The CoC RPG is easier to learn than the other two RPGs. IMO, The game system isn't good for cinematic RPG (my players would have died frequently midgame had I not fudged the die rolls), but you can download the Quickstart from the Chaosium RPG site for free.

Yes, although CW has the cobblestone bases that other Cthulhu miniatures don't have. CMON will have its Cthulhu-with-combat game later this year, date TBA.

EDIT: Looks like Modiphius has a free download of its WWII Cthulhu skirmish game. Glad I kept those Tannhauser miniatures! : https://www.modiphius.net/collections/achtung-cthulhu-skirmish

Thanks for the help =).

I bought the COC Book anyway, as i think it is a great source for ideas and inspiration.

Yeah the bases from Cthulhu wars are mold with the figures, but that's okay for me. I only have some concerns about the size of the figures, as they are only a bit bigger than humans. Some of them should be gigantic. How do you handle the size in your stories or games?

Thx for the link btw^^.
