The pink elephant is brilliant. Another unexpected and creative entry  :-*

Matt, the expressions on the faces of the Masai are perfect  :)

Both fantastic entries.

And yes, the elephant is a superb touch...especially given the leading guy's missing trousers...

Highly original idea, Maledrakh, and beautifully executed! Love the little pinky elephant ...

Dr Mathias background scenery is so realistic looking, just like a real photo from some old magazine.

I'm really wondering what the maestros will keep in hand for the last rounds of this magnificent league ...

DOAG and Masai, right up my alley. And so beautifully done. Love it! Just magnificent.

But the elephant is my favourite thing!   lol

Hehehehe, where does one find an explorer missing his trousers?

He's from North Star. I believe he's meant to be Fred Selous. The real-life hunter who was supposedly the inspiration for Allan Quatermain. The figure depicts him in his preferred costume for hunting elephants.

"The elephant uprooted grass, dirt to mouth. Selous and Cigar dropped their gear and took off their pants. Selous would call it "nice light running order"--long cotton shirt, felt hat, shoes and a good breeze."

Odd fellow.

Rather hilariously, this picture of him in hunting gear appears to have been doctored. At least it looks that way to me. The little shorts don't seem to match the rest of the picture to my eye. I guess a man with no trousers on was not acceptable to late Victorian sensibilities.

He was killed by a German sniper in East Africa during the Great War.

Aha, thanks. Most peculiar.

I wonder if an individual or institution possesses the negative for that studio portrait.
