Bottled City of Kandor in 28mm?
« on: June 16, 2018, 07:46:43 PM »
I am looking to do the Bottled City of Kandor as an objective marker for a Villain Mission Force RPG game. Here's a link explaining VMF:

While Kandor is a DC Comics thing, this issue will involve The Collector, and universal boundaries mean nothing to him.  ;)

So as far as I can tell, there is no 'Clix model for this. Anybody got any ideas for making one myself?

Thanks!

I did wonder about the Westwind Drohne:
https://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=192_68_139&product_id=773

But the dome is too small.

Some kind of space station might work, but the dome would be an issue.

Someone with a vacuum mould could easily make a suitable dome, if you can get one that fitted a Rubicon base you could then build the city inside.

Put that on a suitable pedestal on a base and you are sorted.

Given that "bottled" has a different meaning in Australian slang, I'm interested to see what Kandor looks like having been on the receiving end of a bottling.  ::)

Ooh, poor you (in English that is to receive injuries - often of a circular pattern - from an improvised edged weapon, see also glassed).

Kandor is a city in a bottle, so think Terrarium (Kryptium?). There is a picture on Wikipedia but generally it is a dome with straight sides (think short inverted test tube) covering a tall elegant alien city and its population. There is a base containing support equipment.

One of the agridomes from Silent Running but with an urban environment would be an alternative view.

I would look at a hobby or science supply store for a vial or test tube the size you need. The cheap science kits have plastic test tubes & vials that you could cut down to whatever height you want. or just find one the diameter & height you want. Also if you look through the doll house stuff you might be able to find a miniature display dome the size you need.

I'm not sure exactly the size you had in mind. As an object marker. Then I'd suggest a 1/12 dolls house domes display (Used a few in commissions for mad scientist labs, and space ships) Quick trawl of EBay should find them around the £1-£2 each.
As an objective then the Tamiya display domes are an easy solution.( great for sci-fi and supers as force field markers size J gives roughly a four inch diameter dome again flebay expect to pay around the £10 mark.)

Mark.

You've had a couple of good suggestions, I think, Scott.

Also, you could always look for a vending machine that sells those throw-away "toys" in the plastic bubble-top containers, then throw away everything but the bubble top (get one at Kennywood lol!).

Whatever you end up doing, I'd use one of the models from Mighty Empires to put in as the city - I'm sure that you could find one somewhere.

PS. You've got to wait 'til next month, so that I can join in!

Jan, Saturday, July 21st July 28! Phantom of the Attic! Be there!

And great idea on the Mighty Empires city model--but will it be small enough? Essentially, if I can get it onto a 25mm round base, and get some kind of dome over it, I'd be very happy.

Yes, the GW "Planetary Empires" (40k version) Hive city fits nicely on a 25mm base and finding one on a bits site should be easy.

It is often drawn as being bottle-sized, or sometimes more like a gallon cider jug, but in some depictions the 'bottle' is pretty hefty...

I prefer to think the size variation is due Supes (or his robot duplicates) changing the bottle every now and then.  Figure Kryptonians are much like goldfish, you want to clean their tank every so often and it's sometimes it's easier to just swap to a new one.  :)
