Northstar 1866 range
« on: June 18, 2018, 05:58:21 AM »
A couple of years ago this range included many more figures than it does now, such as Prussian Guards. Where have these gone? Will they ever be available again? Can they be done a second a special order?

Plus they did flags, impossible to find now. Some shenanigans between Northstar and Helion I am led to understand. Because of this farce I have decided to go Spencer Smith for my 19the century European needs...

All very frustrating as their 1866 range looked promising, it is amazing that Helion would buy back the range then just do nothing. All that effort North Star put into that Danish range which I doubt was hardly a best seller. I have seen a range from a firm called 1866 miniatures which looks decent, it has some Hanoverian's and Prussians.

How do those Spencer smith figures compare to other ranges like Foundry?

I think it's a pity that the assortment is not complete anymore. Especially the mounted officers and the different losses.
Do I really understand that Northstar sells the range back to Helion?

North Star still sells the range but in a very limited form without all the previous options. Helion owns the range but hasn't done nothing with it since re-acquiring the figures.

@Johnp4000.
thank for the information.

ok, is there a way to order the other miniatures?
Does it make sense to ask Northstar? Does anyone have experience?
I asked Northstar some time ago, but never got an answer.

I haven't had a good experience with North star asking about old ranges, I asked them once about Imago Militis and was even a rather abrupt response!

Hi Guys
Apologies johnp4000 if we were rude in responding in the past, no excuse.

The 1866 range is owned by Helion again. I agreed to keep the unit deals going while they were re-organising things, but actually it's gone on for a long time with nothing so I'm thinking of offering the range in it's individual packs again.

It's easy to put the job off because the honest truth is, even at it's height of popularity, very very few people are buying these figures. The difficulty is the reality of the time put into sorting out a large figure range compared to the interest it actually generates.

What I have noticed is everyone loves a sale. When I relist the range in the packs again, we'll have a big launch sale to celebrate.

Nick

PS The flags were done by a chap who has dropped off the radar, we'd have to start from scratch with another flag maker there.

No problems Nick, it was a long time ago, I am on your mailing list and will eagerly await any 1866 sale. I understand this is a niche period which obviously effects how much time you put into this range, it is a pity as they are excellent figures.

I actually really like this period, here's a little part of my Prussian Army: https://www.facebook.com/northstarmilitaryfigures/photos/a.219310948097815.78226.218634441498799/2109275735767984/?type=3&theater

What has been a bit of a 'fail', as the young people say, is that when I first took on the range, I gave one of my favourite figure designers Nick Collier an open ended commission to finish the range. He did the Jagers for both sides, the Austrians, the Austrian Dragoons, the Danes, but has not made anything for years now. I like his work, I want him to carry on so I did approach him last month to say 'either carry on, or tell me you're not'. He said he was on with more cavalry as we spoke, so, fingers crossed, there will be Prussian Hussars, Cuirassiers this year.
