Questor Imperialis - Working on my first Knight
« on: June 18, 2018, 07:40:35 AM »
I got caught up in all the hype and picked up the Imperial Knights: Renegade box for the two knights. I started assembling the first one this past week and was inspired by the illustration of the free blade armiger in the codex with a camouflage pattern on the carapace similar to that used on German aircraft in the Great War and tried something similar on mine...

Inspiration and messing around with patterns and colours.

I'd noticed that illustration in the Knights codex, but just balked at the thought of painting the hexes - well done! You must have a steady hand to do those- or a clever method  8) 8) 8)

PS - love the scrapbook too - if that's your work, I see how you did the hexes - manually with a steady hand  :o

Holy Hexes!  :o

Please tell me you had some custom hex masking tool made to get this done, because looking at the pictures, they're damn near perfect! 8)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Thanks!

How did you get the hexes so even?

A very steady hand and a keen eye?

Thanks! It's a new little sketchbook I've started using to work out ideas for colours and patterns on miniatures. Previously, I've just worked thing out and made notes on scrap pieces of paper, but I invariably lose those and then am left wondering what paints I used for what and having to start all over again... The sketchbook, I'm hoping will be less likely to lose or inadvertently tossed and could serve as a sort of archive of ideas from past projects.

All by hand - a steady, precise hand... If you take a REALLY close look, they are by no means perfect... especially on the main carapace out towards the edges there is some considerable variation in shape and size - but you have to look close. I'm hoping people will just take in the overall effect and NOT look too closely!
