Will Trump's trade war affect the price of miniatures?
« on: June 22, 2018, 07:03:38 PM »
I am a bit worried this seems to be escalating. I don't want a Harley Davison bike and I don't drink Jack Daniels but I would like to buy those WW2 miniatures from Gorgon Studios sometime...before I only had to worry about the possible customs charge slapped on but now this  :-[
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

To be honest I am more afraid of post brexit tariffs in the Eu.. but with DT everything is possible. I hope his corporate friends stop this madness before it escalates too much.

There is a full list of what is affected but as long as they are not featured I cannot see a problem. No comment on the politics from me mind. 🤐

Are you worried that an increase in materials cost will pump up the price of minis? Probably not. The most likely influence it would have is on how the US dollar is valued against other currencies which seems to be doing some crazy yo-yo-ing these last 12  months.

The réal killer of the miniature market is and will be more and more connected with the cost of sending them. Not only from USA but from every country to evrywere in the planet. It s a dove business so no chance to have good/bulk sending prices.

Yeah, postal charges around the world have been getting stupidly nuts the past few years.

I don't buy many miniatures, so a slight increase on the cost per item is not going to make much impact. What has stopped me buying from the U.S. (or anywhere outside the EU), was the 'admin cost' levied by our very own Post Office.

At just under £10 it was about four times the actual duty to be paid, which was then added on top, coming to around 50% of the original value of the order, which had gone over the duty-free limit by £4-5.

If I wanted something badly enough I might go for it again, but I'll be making pretty sure it's an order under the limit.

In any case, I'm sure Trump would love to see the US ramp up its exports of lead in bulk... ::)

If any country will volunteer to grant DT asylum, I'll see what I can do to get him there.  Sooner is better.   lol

No politics, folks, if I may remind you.

Since there are no hard facts to indicate an impending duties hike on toys, model kits or the like, and the main gripe will be postal charges and "service fees", I don't see how this thread can serve a proper purpose right now.
