Splendid, highly entertaining!
With your talent for narrative, have you tried Dux Britanniarum by TooFatLardies? I can highly recommend it and I would think suit your play style greatly.

Cheers AP,
I've had Dux B on the shelf for a few years (I even bought plastic markers for it in a burst of enthusiasm), but have never played it. I don't know what it is about Lardie rues, but they seem to defy my understanding. People love 'em and they certainly fill a lot of threads on discussion fora, but I'm always left scratching my head.
Sorry

That is a great AAR and it looked like a fun game to boot.
Actually I second Dux Brit as a set of rules, especially if you like stringing games together as a mini campaign.

I really like the write up style. Most entertaining!
I have been thinking about building a small Romano-British force. I am re-reading Bernard Cornwell's books just now.
So a question - which figures do you recommend? I have Saxons so I only really need to add the British.

Yes, I love Cornwell's Arthurian Trilogy - definitely my favourite of his. Almost all of my figures are from the old Gripping Beast range, but there is a lot more available now, including plastics. I think the best now are those by Footsore Miniatures - I don't have any (I have enough unpainted...), but they are stunning models.
