Using glitter for Star Wars Lightsabers
« on: June 26, 2018, 09:25:36 AM »
Not one for the purists and I know some people will be upset by this!

I conducted an experiment with using glitter for lightsabers for some Jedi figures. Reasonably happy with the effect and it's far better than my attempts at painting lightsaber blades. Pictures are taken on a camera phone.

I took this picture in full daylight.

The glitter effect is more sparkly in real-life!

Very nice. Always great when people make use of uncommon materials (well, uncommon in miniature painting. As my informants tell me, there are places in which glitter is pretty common :p ). I'm not entirely sure that I like the look hugely, but maybe it's just because I'm not used to it. I actually had this thread open for a bunch of days now, and looked at the photos quite a few times during that time. If the look works for you it's perfectly cool. Maybe it doesn't quite 'pop' as much in the photos. My main concern is the bulk that is added to the swords, but again, maybe that's just because these are close-up shots.

On a side note, I love the frog dude. :D Great mini, that.
