Sherlock Holmes and Watson

Finished the Ironclad Holmes and Watson. Great figures. Jeremy Brett was my favourite Holmes. I also have some of the British Guards and some Prussians and French to paint. 

Will definitely buy some more from this range. Not sure how to base them and I have no idea what to will use them for.

Re: bases, have you ever played around with a cobble stamp made from an old paintbrush ferule? Basically you yank the bristles out of an old brush you no longer use or want, then use needle-nosed pliers to bend the ferule end into the shape of a cobble. Then you can put putty on your bases and stamp cobblestone patterns into them. I use it for a lot of my Victorian stylie figures. The integral base the model is standing on can't be stamped of course, so I usually just have that as a patch of dirt or something.

Here, I didn't want to spam your photo thread with photos of my own, but here's one to show how the bases can turn out. The pile of dung is yellow static grass rolled into a sticky pile with some woodglue, pushed on and then given a brown ink wash when dry. There's a bit of brown tinting powder chucked about as well, just to muck things up a bit.

That’s very effective, i’ll have a go at that. I like the way you have depicted the light too.

Thanks, I struggle with OSL (sometimes it just looks a mess), so I tend to go with the 'less is more' approach!
