It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's a Pegasus Knight
« on: July 02, 2018, 08:11:52 PM »
I decided to try my hand at some freehand heraldry for the first time. We've had this pegasus knight lying around the house sad and unpainted for so long, and he's practically covered in shields, so he seemed the perfect target.

I'd love feedback, especially on how others attempt to paint fur on a smooth surface. I had to go over the horse's neck a couple times because it just looked like grimy stone.

I would use a small fan brush and just barely dip the tips in the color of choice... dabbing it on the surface and working in other colors gives a nice affect. Great looking plane... bird... pegasus!

Heraldry is always a pain, I gave up on that rather quickly myself.

Might not be for you, but I usually paint it as a solid block of colour, almost as if it's cloth rather than hair/fur. This is because I usually paint for viewing from a distance instead of close up.
