Land of the Dead. Last Days: zombie apocalypse game table project

resisting the urge to invest some extra exposable income in extra mini's I got myself decent hotwire cutter, an affordable airbrush and some highdensity styrodur.
I'm gonna make me some scenery.
Specifically, I'm gonna make a modular, suburban gamingg table for Last days.
Being almost completly new to the tools I of course opted to make the most complicated building first. Well, at least when I finish this I'll know my stuff.
I want to add a gunstore, motel and gasstation. As well a the actual board and scatter terrain.
I allready noted that I, perhaps, made the church a bit big for the board. Probably two more sizable buildings next to it should do, Especially If I can place my models inside. But it all being modular this won't be much of a problem.
First build the walls, floor and textured them, by drawing lines and rolling wrapped up foil on them. Then stuck them together and hid the seems, as well as adding a bit more interest to the exterior.
Next will be some interior, mainly an altar and some colomns. Pews will follow at some later date when the board is finished.
Then the roof, a bell tower and to decide wether to go for closed wooden windows or stained glass.

Looking good so far!
How did you manage to cut out the archs and windows? I have always such a hard time cutting round forms and curves with the cutter...

Thanks,
I don't use the cutter. I made a card mould to trace with a byro and then cut it with a scalpel. There's probably a way to use the cutter, but I'm new with it.
I do know a way to make circles, but I have to experiment with that technique first.
Made some colomns and an altar yesterday. Creating some interest on the inside as well as some cover. The model is a lot bigger then I intended. A result of my "make it up as I go along" approach. So ot need some cover and exits on al sides, to make an interesting gaming piece.
Didn't glue them in place yet for ease of painting.
After that I made a simple skeleton for the roof and created both facades for it, I allso covered it in card, to act as a bassis for the roof tiles, which is gonna be a &^*&* of a chore.

Thank you
Less time these last few days and to be honest, I was a bit restless and did some computer gaming.
But I did want some progress and I decided on some fun stuff.
Nothing spectacular skill wise, but it does make the model come to life a bit. This is both to hide seams, which is criticall in scenery maing in my view and create a less flat more intersting model. I allso added the steps to the front.

Actually found some time to build the last few days. Not a lot of pictures, because it's so many steps.
Just thought I show where I'm at now.
This thing is actually rather huge.

What a fantastic build! Great job, stoked to see it all painted up.
You're a wizard with that foam-etching.

Thank you both.
Achilles: No magic, just patience. a rapidly diminishing ammount of patience.
I also find your battle reports on youtube a great source of inspiration for scenery.
I made a start on the woodworks. That was way more of a chore that expected. I was hoping to use balsa wood, but my supplier skipped town.
Also made the steps for the side and finished the tower. Now some final detailing on the doors and finish the backside and I may actually get to getting some paint on this thing.
It's gonna dominate the playing field. This sucker is 19 inch long, 12 wide and 20 high.
The missus is starting to express some concern where I'm going to store this. The fact that this is the first project with my new materials isn't helping her anxiety..

Done with building..
Well kinda. I am an idiot and miscounted the windows. I will set this strait on saturday and basecoat the thing with a mix of PVA,water and some cheap acrylic primer.
But at least I know what it looks like in one piece.
Many components aren't glued in place. namely the steps and pillars, altar and doors and windows. this will hopefully make it easier to paint.

Thank you.
Put on the base coat now. I had a bit of a tussle with the airbrush untill I discovered that increasing the PSI o 40 made it much easier to paint these large surfaces. So the second attempt isn't as blodgy as the first, but still not good enough for a mini.
For a building which should show some weathering and age, it's fine.

Amen.
I managed to make a batch-wash. I drybrushed, washed, then drybrushed again.
Then I stuck the model together and put some camo wash in the corners to weather some more.
I messed up a window and wish to add a bit of metal above the altar so I can place magnetised iconography there.
