After a month working on some Chinese buildings, I am back with the brig!

I got the textures for the hull done and started a new build.

Also a view from the stern.

Next I will work on the deck texturing and find the mast positions.

As you can see from the ref minis, this is going to have enough deck space for serious action  :D

For this model I also want to add a new deck "structure", a vertical capstan. That should look good on deck.

Made the deck textures ... and I think the ship is going to be a great tabletop model!  :)

Here's the size comparison Brig vs the Sloop.

I tried to "recycle" some parts from the older models, just to see if it all fits and put a couple of paper minis on deck.

I even put the smallest rowing boat between the two mast ... but one cannot see it well in this shot. How much my babies have grown  :D

Now it's time to work on the details like the railing for the upper deck and the stairs going down and then adding the deck details options to print. And finally work on the bow/figurehead section.

I do hope the upcoming KS with potential stretch goals for Frigate and Galleon will be a success. I only want to build these if there is enough interest, but I REALLY want to build these too  ;D

Anyway, back to work!

Calling the prototype phase done! I have added some details like the stairs and railing to the upper deck ...

... and also worked on the bow keel figurehead section.

Today I put together some preview pics with more deck details and minis!

If you don't print deck details on you can use part which you can use or skip as needed. Do you see the double steering wheel on the upper deck? The stair entrance to the lower deck and grates on the main deck are also removable parts in this case.

Next week I will start adding dirt (weathering) and begin the final build, so I can compete the hull this month.

Here's a comparison of the brig with the sloop, so you can get an idea what the weathering and sailing rig (next month) will turn the brig model into!

I have been working on a new build of the brig with weathered textures and open gun ports AND CANNONS!  :D

This time I went for the classic ship-of-the-line color scheme. After adding the layers for color customization I roughly calculated over 100.000 possible unique looks!

The deck size is large enough to hold many minis. Here I have the British Navy fighting the Pirate zombies! (Paper minis by Okumarts)

I design my models for exterior gameplay but if you want to go "inside" I also provide deck plates for that. Here the zombie Pirates have no clue the prisoners in the captains cabin are planning an escape.

The light rays indicate where windows and doors are.

I decided for this setup because I don't find it practical to start removing deck sections during gaming as most likely all minis on deck would fall off or at least move around. For larger ships with more decks you could then simply have the other decks on the side and have your minis run up and down as needed.

Next up I will be working on the sailing rig ... this time with square sails!

Outstanding job!
And the light rays indicating where the doors and windows are a simple and practical idea!
Cheers!

Thank you so much guys!  :)

I am excited to get the sailing rig done for this one and even more to start prepping the Kickstarter project for the full "Pirate Fleet Builder" series. I very much hope it will be successful so I can continue working on the even larger Frigate (20"/50cm) and Galleon (24"/60cm).

I will also see if I can whip up some stone docks aka wharf in addition to the wooden ones for that.

If you have ideas what else should be included don't be shy! I cannot promise anything, but if makes sense and it's doable I will try to include it as a stretch goal!

In the meantime I have continued working on the masts and ratlines (and crows nest) for the brig.

For the crows nest I went for this version as it works well for gaming with minis (it has space for 3x1" base minis so get 'em up there and fight! :D) although I might make the classic "bucket" version too later.

Here is the updated prototype with easy ratlines.

Next will be the square sails and then repeating this step for the final build with the cannons! Getting quite excited and looking forward to see this ship will full sails soon  :)

Thank you guys!

I have a question. As you see I mostly use paper minis now and my old LotR minis. I am wondering if one can get preferably prepainted pirate minis? I have given up painting minis when my eyes got worse and threw out my old (and dried up) paint some time ago. Would be cool to add some 28mm pirate minis in my pics.

I have to admit that every now and then I get bitten by the bug to paint minis again but would probably have to paint with some crazy huge magnifying glasses like a weird professor  :D

So any hints and tips for pirate minis would be much appreciated!

Chris
