I have been busy  :D

Here's a look at the half scale (15mm minis) final prototype. I have been stretching the stern part to make it look more pleasing. The first test was too short.

The cabin will be removable so you have two ship options with that.

And then I started working on the full scale (28-30mm minis) prototype. For this size I have some parts split as they are longer than a page.

Here is the comparison of the half and full scale model.

I started to sketch the details on to get a better look. With the LEGO's I think you can imagine the scale better. Let's just say there will be enough deck space for mini action  :D

A final test to see if the canons fit revealed: they don't  :-[ So I have to raise the sides by about 5mm. But when I looked at the minis, they looked to high because of the raised base. So actually the correction is just fine!  :)

Now I need to work in all the corrections I found during the build and then I can start working on the cabin and texturing!

Happy building,
Chris

It is coming out very nice! Good continuation!

Next test build with lots of corrections and deck structures ... and the cannons!  :D

Now I have to start working on the mast/sail/rig and the texturing. Getting there  :)

Hi guys,

today I have more WIP pics to show of the textured Pirate Sloop.

First is a pic with all the deck structures I am adding to the set. They are all removable so you can configure your gaming version as you like! The texturing is not 100% final but almost. I have made some final corrections and tweaks after this build.

For gaming I took out some of the deck structures and had more room for minis  :D

Even the stern cabin is removable. Here is a look at the empty hull.

Here is a stern view. I found an error I made while transferring some geometry corrections to the build files, so you will notice the nasty gap on the corner. It's also fixed now. But with the choice of texturing color (black) it doesn't look that bad even like this. I tried to make the geometry almost "self-correcting" for ease of build. Looking forward what builders will say once it's out.

Finally a comparison shot of the previous "gunboat" and the current sloop.

Now it's time to start working on some good looking mast and sails so you guys can crank out a nice fleet of these  :D

Could you do a stern without the windows ,too? If someone decides to run the sloop without the cabin?

A very rough test layout of mast and sails ... starting to look like a real ship now  :D

For the first time my usual 1-month release cycle is too short. I have to split the Patreon release into two parts to keep with the quality I am striving for!

So to get the first half ready I am completing and polishing and packaging the ships hull, deck and cabin. Here is a look at the fully weathered new build. I have added dirt, scratches and old wood texture and also went with the lighter and bleached layers to add to the weather beaten look.

Here is a comparison of the older pristine build and the current old build.

Now I am heading back to the workbench, as there are many smaller things I want to add before this release  :D

Excellent work!

How do you paint the wood grain?

Thanks

Excellent work!

How do you paint the wood grain?

Thanks

I create (digital) base textures like wood, wood planks, old wood etc. This process usually is a mix of painting patterns on my own and combining it with processed images. I don't want to just use photo captures as this usually results in a "hard" realistic look. I rather want to create a "softer" look that has the quality of painting.  This gives me the control I need to get the right size and scale of details so the model will look believable from the viewers POV. Then I use these textures to (again) digitally paint the parts I have extracted from the 3D model geometry I have started with.

These 2D parts are then layout on the pages and exported to a PDF file, which I (and later all customers) print, cut and then assemble.
