Belgian's Colonial Collection Thread Update 04/05
« on: July 12, 2018, 08:00:30 PM »
Decided to start a Darkest Africa miniature collection, so finally managed to paint the first few bits. So without further delay, I'm presenting a small camp with some Renedra tents and barrels and some home sculpted and casted crates. Although the collection will be mostly 'historical' I will be adding some dinosaurs and other pulpy additions.

Thanks!

@Smokeyrone, will be using a mixture of Dixon Miniatures, Warlord Games, Wargames Foundry, Northstar Miniatures and most likely many more other companies but first up will be some explorers and porters.

@Gringo, will be adding some Dahomey warriors when they're ready!

@marco55, have a Reaper giant ape, unpainted of course 😀

Good start. This is such a fun period with really excellent options and miniatures. It has even pulled me in from my obsession with the Back of Beyond and SE Island Asia. You are going to enjoy your adventures in Darkest Africa. Looking forward to more.

Time flies but still working on this project, currently some cavalry.

These are plastic perry miniatures, ACW cavalry plus AZW heads = cheaper cavalry  :D

Having been loving your work on your LotR army (and being a bit of a gadfly in terms of period/setting myself) I'm not going to criticise any it taking two years to get these guys out there...

Do you have any tutorials or just WIP shots of the process of getting your cavalry done? Plastic cavalry plus plastic heads sounds like the sort of modelling I could do, and it would be very nice to get some British cavalry on the go (I'm sure I have some pith-helmeted heads in various places).

EDIT: ... are these the Perry ACW plastics that don't have hats on? Even I might be able to 'put some hats on some dudes' (I think I have a bunch of Pith Helmets knocking around somewhere).

Thanks don't have work in progress pictures but I have cut off the heads of the cavalry riders and then glued in place the Perry heads. No need for greenstuff if you cut well and quite easy. Have also used some of the arms such as the chap waving his helmet to encourage his comrades. Thought I was quick with getting these almost done in 2 years  lol
