The first thing I want to say is that this is excellent work - far better than anything I could do.

The one thing you haven't quite caught, and I appreciate this is difficult (if not impossible) to do in a 'stand alone' model that isn't fitting into a larger contoured board, is the 'sunken' nature of the roads within the centre of Plancenoit.  When I visited the village in 2014, the first thing that struck me was "Wow!  This looks nothing like any depiction I've ever seen on a wargames table!"  However, yours is as close to the real thing as I have seen in wargaming terms.

The church (which is not the one that's currently standing there - so well done for not copying it) and the north-eastern half of the village is on a hill, whilst the south-western half is around the edge of a bowl that runs to the foot of the church entrance and forms a central 'square'.  As you walk around the northern and eastern sections particularly, but all the roads in and out of the southern and western sections too, the first thing that strikes you is that the boundary walls of many of the properties go up to head height (I'm 6'5"), with the ground floor levels of the buildings a few feet above that, in some cases.  Storming the village from east to west and north to south must have been an absolute nightmare, and difficult to imagine being performed without ladders!

Anyway, well done - looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Cheers  :)

To the Baron. Yes, you’re correct but it mentions in the blog post that it’s not supposed to be wholly Plancenoit as the intention is to use it for battles/games other than that one. The client wanted something a bit generic but identifiable.

Sunken roads would’ve been possible though along with the hill but impractical for the client  :)
cheers

I did "speed read" through the entire thread and thought that was what you were aiming for.  You seem to have done what the client wanted, which is fair enough.

Away at the moment but still doing bits here and there. Some 15mm German builds. Sprayed white as it was the only decent primer available.

One or two details to finish off and there’s a third house but I’m still working on the roof.

Got some more builds on the go for (name drop time) Alan Perry. Some German Saxon farm buildings. Seven in total but I won't be able to do the bigger ones as I probably won't be able to bring them back  lol

The last one will be painted at home as I can't find a decent enough spray here. It's not that there won't be one, it's just it would take to long to find it.

Fascinating to see how your builds start out and beautifully done as always.
Hopefully those will get this Alan Perry chappie  properly started in wargaming  ;)
