First unit of Warfares Swedish Cavalry
« on: July 17, 2018, 08:55:12 AM »
I received Warfares new Swedish Cavalry late last week and have just had the first unit back from the basing department, I should point out that these are a mix of the old figures and the new ones and for this unit utilise the old style horses (I already had them painted) but I do like how they have come out. See what you think, more pictures on the blog.

Hi,
I'm always fascinated when I see you working on your GNW project!
Your horses have always the right "horse" colour and of course the Warfare miniatures are stunning!
You did an outstanding paintjob, I like very much the hue of their uniforms and the guy with the bandaged eye is a must-see  ;D
One more beautiful addition to your growing GNW collection.
Eager to see your next GNW battle! Cheers!

Really kind thank you. I did have a bit of a dilemma with the blue for these guys but am really happy with the outcome. For regular Horse for the Swedes I always like to go with dark browns, my understanding is that many nations took darker horses for the better regiments as they thought they were stronger. The lighter coloured horses going to the dragoons who always had the second pick. Hence the colours in my dragoon regiments are a bit more diverse. Glad you like them, next game in about 2 weeks a think, hopefully these guys dont run away at the first whiff of gun smoke.

Wonderful painting and figures.

Think the swedes were an exception as their cavalry and dragoons were all charging horse. Makes no sense to give half you cavalry exclusively an inferior horse. Only requirement was height.

I haven't read the Helion book on the swedes yet though, so I could be wrong!

Its not so much the height as just the colour, Dragoons usually got inferior horses, the Swedes were likely an exception, but the horses regiments got their pick of the darker colours so Dragoons would be just as good horses but a more mixed bag of colours. My understanding is its why the Scots greys were greys, the horses regiments wanted dark horses and the scots greys got decent horseflesh but in paler colours. Many of the Northern European armies subscribed to this odd idea it seems. Good news for the dragoons as they got better horsesflesh.
