Hello all, I've been neglectful of my painting recently due to the heatwave in the UK, and practically everywhere by the sounds of it. I did, however, manage to pull my finger out long enough to do a few genestealers:

I tried a new technique on them, painting with washes. It's something I've tried once before with no great effect but this time it came out great! The skin and clothing are all inks and washes over a white primer. The metallic pieces, guns and bases are all painted properly, but this method allowed me to paint these five in two evenings of painting! The next five in the squad are waiting until I get home from holiday. The ease of this method and the great (in my opinion) results have got me thinking about all those metal catachans I've got in a drawer waiting for some paint. It's no substitute for proper highlighting and blending and all that but for squaddies it's a significant step up from my ordinary standard!
The cult name is a Terry Pratchett reference that seemed appropriate, a bunch of ordinary people calling down something that in the end will destroy them, in the mistaken belief that it will bring them great power.

Nice, the colors are very vibrant and the colors pop. What brand inks and washes did you use?

Thanks for the compliments! I forgot to mention the bases are from gladius game arts, lovely bases.

I used games workshop's reikland fleshshade for the skin, waywatcher green glaze for the clothing, and nuln oil for the grey padding and boots. The purple is army painter purple tone ink. All of them had at least three coats, letting the wash dry completely between coats.

Thanks for that! You’ve just made me realise where I think I go wrong with my painting! I think I expect too much from a single wash!

I gave up on wash painting a load of beastmen for exactly the same reason! Definitely takes a few coats to get it looking right, the army painter coloured inks/washes (not sure I know the difference) are a great value bundle to give lots of options. The only negative is that you will go through your washes like nobody's business! I've never bought a new wash since I started painting again a few years ago but now my fleshshade and nuln oil are looking pretty low.
