Realms of Chaos nostalgia project
« on: July 22, 2018, 07:33:06 PM »
I went through a phase of picking up some of the old 1980's Chaos Champions a few years back but never did anything with them. I started back again with a view to running a Realms of Chaos game at BLAM. So far I've got enough figures for a warband for one each of the four main Ruinous Powers, one for Chaos Undivided, two for Hashut and his Chaos Dwarves, and one for the Beasts. Some of these I already had, some were ebay purchases and some were thanks to some very kind LAFers (thank you again).

It'll be a 4' x 4' table based on the Chaos Wastes with some suitable scenery.

I picked some cheesy cherubs up from Home Bargains ages ago to test out, decided they'd work as monoliths and went back to get two more only to find they had one left. Now I can't get them anywhere! I've started to mess around with one for Nurgle.

Each cherub will be based on a blue foam plinth. Nurgle will be typically covered in pustules, etc, Khorne in burnt flesh, Tzeentch in eyes, and I'm undecided about Slaanesh. Besides, I only have three at the moment, with no way of getting another as yet.

Would the cherubs not have been creepy enough on their own? Maybe in amongst some rubble or rocks?

Probably. That's why I didn't just buy all four at the time, I thought "who the hell would want these creepy little things?" Each one has to be recognisable as a particular power for the game though.

I've been working on a giant Chaos tree with the intent of creating a 1980's Warhammer vibe. It's a work in progress with a lot still to do. I need to get a base sorted out to start building the root buttresses.

Cheers. I left all my ply in my old garage when I moved, so I need to re-source some basing material. It'll be bloody massive though. It could double as a sort of herdstone.

Cut-offs at b&q mate. They can be 50p for decent sized bit.

Good start on the tree.

Edit:do you have images of what you are trying to achieve? I've had a quick look at artwork from the books. There's not much that shows backgrounds. They all tend to be just a sea of rolling, mutated monsters!

I might try that, thanks.

I've searched for landscapes of the Chaos Wastes for ages and didn't find much, unfortunately. I've got an image in my head as to what I want it to look like though. I almost want it to look like it could get up and eat you.

What about craters with a giant eyeball in it then? Tentacles stretching from off board? Or even floating rocks, like in Avatar?
