ChargeDog's Fantasy Adventures: Project Dungeon Crawl

So this is my first time posting in an era forum outside of the Modern gaming one. I've been running my blog for the last few years focusing on ultramodern stuff. However, after taking a break, I realised I wanted to do something different than machine guns and camo.

Having wanted to do some low fantasy stuff for a while, I decided to go looking for some grimey looking adventurers perfect for dungeon crawling using Open Combat. And then I found the Frostgrave soldiers box, started building, things went black and when I looked back I'd picked up a few extra sprues to do some mix and matching.



First post in this project is coming on Wednesday and is going to cover the various Frostgrave plastic soldier options and show off what I've built with them. The photo above should work as a teaser.

I love the interchangeable nature of the Frostgrave plastics. Took me ages to figure, but with the sacks you can position the open left hand so it's holding it.

Might want to check out the pending Oathmark human soldiers and the Fireforge Kickstarter due in September for more variety (and the Ghost Archipelago soldiers for that matter)

The Frostgrave sprues are fun to play with.

The description of the figures are really useful.

The Oathmark ones look interesting as well.

I'm currently thinking about basing. For the moment they are on the usual plastic base but I'm tempted by the clear plastic bases. Anyone got some thoughts on them?

On the subject of basing, I cannot understand why they chose integral bases on the figures, not having lumps joining the feet would make choosing your base style so much easier. I suppose it means they are similar to the metals, but it does make using clear or moulded bases more difficult (you are likely to have fewer metals to remove the bases).

I have gone for milliput and model railway ballast with blocks of plastic and MDF pieces for Frostgrave and a more beach orientated style (milliput and ballast) for Archipelago.

By the way, the GW plastic Necromancer might suit your needs.
