My first ever Dwarf!
« on: May 20, 2009, 09:09:45 PM »
No, not the first I've painted, but the first one I bought. Heck, he's the first miniature I ever bought, some 25 years ago!  :o

Got him from a little shop in Colchester when I was 10 (1984 - the year on his base), think he cost me 20p. Might have been slightly less as he's not very well cast.  :)

He's sat in a drawer under several layers of enamel paint for decades, then had a 24 hour bath in dettol, and took a paltry 2 hours to paint. Was the wait worth it?

Lovely paintwork on the little fella, especially the eyes and rune!

He's not the best sculpt I've seen, but then again he is an old git, so it's understandable. You've done the exact opposite to what I normally do, ie you've taken an average figure and made it look outstanding, whereas I can make a Perry or Copplestone look like sh*t  :(

I think you need to get some of the newer Dwarf figures eg Vendel or Lord of the Rings and really go to town  :D

Thank you all.  :)

D'oh!  lol

@GM: He's actually so badly cast most of the detail is painted on. One side of his face was just an irregular lump of flash that I had to score out with a knife.

I took Orctrader's advice for the eyes though and painted them on first, highlighting the flesh around them - works a treat!

The eyes have it!
The eyes are great. :-*
Very nostalgic of you.
You now have me trying to rack my brain to remember the first figure I bought, in the dim and distant past. o_o

My first figures were some 1/300 science-fiction tanks and APCs. They're still in one of the boxes of 6mm stuff, awaiting a return to that scale and genre. (possibly when either Dirtside 3 or an SF supplement for Mein Panzer come out...)

If you're into Dwarves, check Reaper's stuff out. Lots of good Dwarves there. My Round 4 LPL3 entry is 5 of Reaper's Dwarves... but they threw themselves in front of a (very cool) pulp truck and got flattened...  lol  At least I got enough painted Dwarves for a small but viable warband out of it!

Imagine the condition he'd now be in if he hadn't been covered in enamel for the last twenty years.

Waaait a second there. I'd assumed most of you had been wargaming/painting since the dawn of time. You're telling me there was a time before you painted small metal soldiers?  :o

Everything I thought I knew is a lie!

Oh, nice painting, too.
I told you so. You damned fools.
