Renaissance army, mounted Crossbows

This summer I have worked on a unit of pikemen using parts from Perry mercenaries and Warlords landsknechts. The two set fit easily together and supplement each other well. I plan to use them as 15th century and early 16th century mercenaries. I have colored them red, green and white because I really like the way these colors compliment each other. I saw it on some Stuart infantry on this forum and thought I try it out. I searched for German states, cities or counts using these colors in their livery and found the Wendish knights used it along with a griff. Perfect for German mercs in Danish service.
I have painted some handgunners as well using Perrys and Warlords but haven't based them yet. I will post them when they are ready.
Cheers
Erik

Wow, they look great!
I'm often wary of the idea of combining miniatures from two different ranges spanning up to 50 years, as a way of magically producing troops from between the two... But I think it definitely works here. Well done.
I'd love to see more pics. Any close-ups?

They really turned out great. I think I might have to do some of my own.

I have based my handgunners. They are also a mix of Perry and Warlord. I absolutely love Perry plastics, but after having painted quite a few merc infantry boxen I find that the weapon options are somewhat limited. There are 18 pikes, 12 crossbows and 12 handgunners in a box of 40. That means that you actually need to build a little bit of everyone if you want to use up all the miniatures in the box. The landsknechts have sufficient pike to help out this problem and the handguns can be used as well. On the other hand, I found some of the landsknechts miniatures to be a bit to armored and not landsknecht flashgit enough. These work fine with the Perry heads and arms. All in all as already said: two sets that compliment each other really really well.

I have painted up a small unit of gendarmes from Steelfist. Excellent miniatures with super character to them. my only complaint is that the cool transfers are just to difficult to use. I managed to get one covered in damask but it was in a million pieces and I had to do a lot of cover painting not to mention the time it took. The models work fine without and I think my next batch will be without completely.

More Landsknecht handgunners for my forces. These guys are from Pro Glory.
I am working on some Swiss pikemen from Foundry at the moment but have just started so it might be a while before they are ready.
