A walk up the Wrekin to the local hillfort is worth the exertion, just for the view alone. The ramparts and gateways are still in fair condition too.
Admittedly Wroxeter doesn't seem to warrant the entry price, it used to be free. I gather it does fund the activities that take place over the Summer though.
There's still much of it below ground and the present-day village itself is believed to have been within the walls, to give an idea of the size of the city in its heyday. As there has been no build on the site for the most part, potentially the entire city could be unearthed and interpreted.
I understand the timber building is an 'in-situ' replica of a 6th Century Romano-British structure, believed to have been a high status 'palace' at the time. Take it as you will, but 'Camelot' was suggested and 'historical detective' Graham Phillips believes King Arthur was buried at nearby Baschurch. Plenty of 'lakes' (Meres) round about to throw swords into as well.
