Anyway...to continue. Last Sunday we played the game to a conclusion....of sorts
One of the Allied commanders had gone off to Italy on his holidays (we suspect he's a turncoat
) so it was up to his sidekick to salvage some pride and take the attack to the Italians. First of all he had to do something about the pesky flamethrower tankette which was wreaking havoc on his left flank. It destroyed 2 squads of Sikhs, an Indian Pattern Carrier, and was starting on the Rajput Rifles squad. The AT grenades in the Tilly hadn't reached the squad of Essex Regt they were intended for as the road was blocked by the 2 burning Honeys. Fortunately the two Crusader I's and a Crusader II managed to work their way around the roadblock and finally took out the troublesome Italians.
Mean while on the Allied right a squad of Essex was wiped out by a squad of Camino Nere. The Blackshirts rolled for shirkers, and threw a 5! Fanatics!! That didn't help Allied morale one bit.
The Indians on the Allied left finally took the ruined village and their Vickers which had been skulking somewhere near the baseline finally gained some courage and moved up to support the remaining squad of Sikhs. The remaining Italians bugged out and headed for Ben Kharzi.
Unfortunately for the Allies the remaining SAS were wiped out of the harbour wall, they only succeeded in setting one explosive device against a large oil tank in the docks before they were killed.
This eventually exploded killing 7 out of a squad of 10 Afrika Korps, but by then it was too late The Allies had lost so many units (6) that Italian morale increased by 2, making it an impossible task for the Allies to win with only 2 squads, an MMG and 3 tanks versus 2 AT guns (one of them Afrika Korps), an autocannon, an MMG, and 2 squads of Italian infantry and 2 squads of DAF.
Next time a spot of role reversal as the Allies (Aussies mostly) defend Tobruk from the Axis.
