Good generic "Dragon Rampant" style sci-fi rule set?
« on: August 29, 2018, 12:35:34 AM »
I'm looking for a good solid sci-fi ruleset that's not tied to any specific line of miniatures. Good for larger skirmishes and small battles... nothing for massive battles, but more then 15 to 20 guys a side. One that's similar to a lion rampant or a dragon rampant ruleset where it just gives me a good outline of rules along with several different Army lists and factions. Mostly just a good solid ruleset. I have a lot of different sci-fi type Miniatures that I'd love to create my own warbands with and add or subtract weapons or Powers as the rules would allow and just have a good battle. Needs to have thought through troops, artillery, and vehicles (mechs, walkers, land speeders, and 40k style tanks, as well as air craft will be used.... human and alien on all accounts).... something adaptable to these conditions... i don't mind having to do custom specs for some of the areas it doesn't hit... i.e. troops, heroes, and tanks but not artillery or air ships... I can adapt....Thoughts??

Thanks for this, I came to ask a similar question to the OP, and am a big fan of the Rampants, so this looks ideal.

I'm a Fubar fan. Lots of variants for it. I have run 15mm TERMINATOR games, SG1, generic scifi and Star Wars Clone Wars games. I have used a platoon a side to 200+ infantry on the table with 30 vehicles. I have also used aircraft. Dropships, VTOL and more. Fubar is quite good and has some discussion on the Forge of War Facebook group. It's free so you have nothing to lose but your time to take a look!

Thanks.

Surely you would just use the normal modern/scifi rules?

That Xenos Rampant hack looks tremendous! We've played a few games of Dragon Rampant using some sci-fi figures - typically boosting Elite Foot past 10 points to get suitably fearsome super-soldiers (giving them ranged weapons and venomous shooting, if I remember correctly) and adding Venomous shooting to scouts to get light infantry. But this looks a really nice way of getting a more thoroughly sci-fi/science-fantasy flavour.

I sprayed a whole batch of 15mm space marines before leaving for work this morning, as this has whetted my appetite for 15mm DR and sci-fi again.
