Here early in childhood boys are expected to know the difference between whitetail and mule deer by their antlers at a glance so it is more the result of a trained eye.

Re: Latest conversion done - Pirate fiddler
« Reply #48 on: August 19, 2009, 03:15:11 AM »
No, I haven't made the conversion but I have a spare Foundry or Dixon Old West fiddler and I was thinking of doing the conversion to make him a Pirate era/type figure, so I am seeking opinions.

1. Should I use a tricorned head or a head with bandanna?
2. Should I bulk out the OW trousers to make them baggier or leave them as the slimmer line?

Someone recently was lamenting the lack of a Pirate fiddler either on here or TMP, so I thought that my idea was an acceptable solution.

Also picked up a Dixon seated fiddler and dancer (hoedowner?) who will finish up as one of the crowd in a saloon (eventually). Already have the piano man and banjo/mandolin players (they are painted courtesy of a friend) as well as the card players and saloon girls. Gradually gathering the Cantina crowd as well.
Cheers,

I wonder how much fiddling that was done in the pre-tricorne era. I would go for the tricorne option with bulky trousers

Nicely done S.I.  :o
You should try sculpting a whole one. Looks like you've got the knack.

Last conversion...

I took Heroclix Criminal from the waist down, added Heroclix Doc Samson's from the waist up, added greenstuff for his shirt and made Doc Savage.

For a size comparison, here he is next to Bob Murch's outstanding Doc Savage miniature…

Got the idea from http://docsavagetales.blogspot.com/2009/04/tannhauser-tuesday.html

This is the first time I ever converted a mini and my most extensive use of greenstuff to date.

I'm still in the "baby steps" stage.

The three in the centre are converted; the warchief with headdress has just had his headdress added; the two shieldbearers had their spears cut down, shields added, and remaining spearshaft converted to Aztec-style rake-swords (behind the shields). The rest of the unit is stock Hydra "Ugg" Saurians.

Here my last experimental thug: "Oberst von Holstein" with his little lovely looking and somewhat different dog "Rumpelstoß".
The figures are from EUREKA and the Helldorado range.
The weapon in the right hand is from GW's Fantasy Imperial Pistoliers.
Sorry, no step by step description.

That is nice, I thought you had sculpted him at first, not familiae with that figure. The blue works very well, if you had described it I think it would have seemed too pale.
