Getting better at painting these
« on: September 05, 2018, 08:44:42 PM »
My friend got me interested in bolt action so thought I would try out a box.
Just finished a few but colors did not pop the way I wanted them to but then again I been painting up medieval and samurai.
I started another set and going go a bit lighter.
Also any suggestions would be great.
Experiment on painting eyes but these didn't turn out right.
What's a good dry brush color for german field gray?

You did a very nice job with the camo!  I would suggest Vallejo Grey Green or German Field Grey for the drybrush (at work so I don't have the color numbers offhand).

As for the figures, the original plastic Germans are not so great - get the newer Grenadiers or the Blitzkrieg Germans and you would be much happier.  Still, the original plastic Germans are an order of magnitude better than the original plastic Americans!

Citadel Nurgling Green is a good choice for highlighting Field Grey.

Try Vallejo Field Grey and or the Valkejo Panzer Colours field grey(s) and highlight with green grey.

For my money the nicest German minis are the Crusader ones for early war and Artizan for late war. They mix well as the weapons are the same.

I recently bought the WG Germans in greatcoat, mostly to produce enough machine gun crew, sans rifles*. They are some of the best WG figures I’ve seen and they mix reasonably well with my Crusader figures.

* Pet peeve, nobody produces German machine gun teams with the right equipment.
