I heard it was because the original creator managed to hold on to the copyright (somehow!) and GW were reluctant to use them.

It's a shame it disappeared, always wanted to see more. Realms of chaos would have been interesting with him in. Still I'm happy enough as I've the chaos brothers to paint( plus all three mounted versions)

#21 - Sandra Prangle (Citadel c1986 The Tragedy of McDeath)

Sandra is squire to Sir John Quicksure, a knight errant opposing McDeath. Her horse died on the way to the battle and she misses him badly. The original heraldry for Quicksure was a yellow (or maybe gold) griffon against a white or silver background, but I thought it looked too wishy-washy, so I changed it to a dark blue griffon against yellow background (similar to the Percy arms).

Poor grasp of the rules of heraldry, that chap. Never put a metal tincture on another metal tincture - only metal on colour or vice versa.

The changed one looks great, though. Thorougly swell leather tones, too.

Number 22 Citadel Dwarf crossbow

Citadel solid based dwarf crossbow, Perry sculpt, again from early 80s I think.
These were when Dwarves were at their best in my opinion

Terribly fine work so far. In particular the Goodwin elves, Cubs' beautiful McDeath figs and Argonor's MM model. Thanks guys!

I'll have to see if I can't find an onother untapped old-school ore int ye olde lead mountain.

I hope to get stuck in painting some more old lead after this weekend - we have the annual Egeskov Market, and it takes up most of our otherwise free time (I have volunteered for collecting parking fares tomorrow afternoon, so had to browse through the market stalls today)

The next time some wanker declares that LAF is home to a lot of unreconstructed old fart ‘historical’ wargamers, I will have to point out that the Napoleonic (AKA Big Battalions / horse and musket) painting club took literally A YEAR to generate 100 figures. Whereas this old school fantasy club looks like it will be comfortably done and dusted inside a month.

Thereby proving that LAF is actually the broad church it’s always been (and home to a lot of unreconstructed old fart ‘fantasy’ wargamers

Funny what different perspectives we have, Richard. Most of the criticism of LAF I have read has kind of been the opposite of that. That is to say that we are a bunch of frivolous skirmish lightweights who don't take things seriously enough, and are obsessed with pretty-pretty pictures and eye candy over solid wargaming substance.
