Hey good article. I think it was 1994 when Hercules and Xena stormed the greek tv. Oh my god how much I hated those series. Before the first episode i was really excited for an epic series based on greek mythology. But what i saw was just a cheepo trashy show, with childish humour and unintentional comedy value every time they used a modern greek name that would be suitable for a grocery seller, as the name of a king or made up hero.
You see the 16 years old me, was a very strict and demanting viewer  lol, my favourite epic movie was Conan the barbarian, I was reading Slaine, Savage Sword of Conan and any other barbarian, fantasy, epic material. So i didnt like the dumb, slapstick tone of those series.
But i have to admit Lucy was gorgeous and the worldwide success of those series might have played a big role in the come back of epic and fantasy movies. Perhaps without Hercules and Zena we wouldnt have Gladiator, or even Lotr.

I totally share your statement.  :)
You say it right: " But what i saw was just a cheep trashy show, with childish humour and unintentional comedy...."
But yes. Just like you, I also think that Hercules and Xena accustomed the viewers to fantasy series.
