Xenos Rampant 15mm project (finished 15mm orks and FUBAR)
« on: September 10, 2018, 11:04:38 PM »
A recent post here prompted me to investigate the Xenos Rampant hack, which I very much like the look of. We've played a bit of science-fantasy Dragon Rampant in the past using 15mm stuff, but the XR hack is much more comprehensive than our rule-bending for sf, which generally involved taking Elite Foot profiles past 10 points and adding Venomous for shooting.

We've got lots of 15mm primitives around (frog-men, lizardmen, ogres, giant ratmen, goblins, etc.), so some higher-tech types are needed to oppose and/or lead them.

Here are some early efforts: spacemen with an attempt to do object-source lighting shamelessly and ineptly ripped off from Spacejacker's sublime blog (Elite Infantry in a reduced-model unit of three); a crabman (first of a 12-strong unit of Light Infantry); an old robot; some old aliens (four more of those on the way for a six-strong unit of Lesser Xenos); and some fresh primitives (more on them here).

Apologies for the squint photos: the Mac's basic photo-editor seems incapable of rotation other than a full 90 degrees.

Thanks, all!

Here's a finished unit of Lesser Xenomorphs, along with a larger sort. I have a unit of six of the latter underway; they'll either be Lesser Xenomorphs with Venomous or perhaps just a non-reduced-model unit of Greater Warbeasts.

I'll probably add a 28mm genestealer or two as a single-model Greater Warbeast, and perhaps a Reaper Bathalian.

You can find them here. I came across them via this forum. You need Dragon Rampant to play, as these are an add-on. I haven't played Xenos Rampant yet, but it looks pretty good: a more systematic adaption of the DR rules than what we were doing before.

I'm also planning to use this 15mm stuff for Alien Squad Commander (hence the 50 x 50 sabots, though they're useful for DR/XR too), once I have enough of it painted.

Lovely stuff! I had a similar idea back when Lion Rampant first came out - it's great to see someone do something real with it  :D

Just ran a game of this over the weekend. 6 Space Marines (Elite Infantry in Heavy Armor) vs 72 Planetary defense forces. It was close (and whole lotta fun).

I imagine the automatic activations for the Elite Infantry make this sort of 'one unit vs several' game much more feasible than in Dragon Rampant.
