Star Wars Snowspeeder conversion (Painted) 03/11
« on: September 16, 2018, 11:28:49 AM »
When the Force Awakens came out I grabbed a couple of the Disney die-cast Speeders as they are perfect for 28mm gaming with very little effort....

I wanted to make a transport vehicle for the Baronial Troops for my Outland setting.
As I wanted all the figures to be standing in this vehicle, I pulled out the seats and headrests and then removed the gun to make more room.
This was really easy as the are just 'plugged in'. A quick pull with a pair of pliers and out they came.

I gave the vehicle a quick drybrush to help with later painting and added a few green stuff details to help change the look to something a little more 'retro'. and hopefully less 'Star Wars'....

A Baronial Guard would become a driver by the simple expedient of making a cut downwards behind the gun, removing both the gun and his hands, and a simple control unit and new hands were added. Also a new 'mask' was created to give him a slightly different look.

(I still need to finish the sleeves... but that wont take long ::)).

And here it is at the moment, with the driver in situ prior to painting.....

I have yet to decide whether or not to fix more Guards in place or even a add dignitary or two.
We shall see.

Nifty! I always meant to pick a few up and then never did. That'll look good on the table top.

I like that :-* :-* :-*
Any idea how it will scale up against Imperial assault figures?

Thanks, chaps.
It is a nice base model, even to simply use it as it comes, although they may be more difficult to find now.

As for scaling up with Assault, I am not sure as I do not have any IA figures, maybe Agis could answer that better than me.

Oh, and you hade better be warned that there are several First Order Snowspeeders about, including Lego.
This is the packaging that this one comes in....

Good luck, mate, as they seem to be pretty hard to get hold of now.
Which is a shame as they do scale up well and at the original price of about £8 were a good price too.

Good start mate! 8)

Cheers, mate.
Hoping to get some more done this week, along with a few more figures.
 :)

Cool! 8)

Nice to see what can be done with them.

I have a couple of these that I just use as scenery right now, but they will eventually be used as vehicles.

They're pretty heavy though, so I'll have to find a different way than usual to base them in hover mode.

Are you using the original base, or will you do something else to it?
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

I am thinking of simply using a block of clear acrylic as it only needs to 'float' a couple of centimetres from the 'floor'.
I reckon that if you can see it, it just represents the repulsorlift 'field'.
 ;) :D

Sweet ride!

Cheers!

I have one of these, but I could never figure out why people said it was suitable for 28mm, as it looks more like 20mm at best. Turns out the one I have isn't the Disney one (I think it may be hotwheels) :?

Just ordered one of the "proper" ones from Amazon. They have gone up in price :( I went for the £19.99 one, however, rather than the £67.29 + £10.00 p&p one :o

Your conversion is coming along nicely, will be interesting to see it when it's painted
