Hi,

This year at Enfilade, in Seattle, I hosted a game on 'The Battle of Teutoberg Forest.' The scenerio was simple. A Tribune and his three cohorts try to get their three eagles off the other side of the tables edge before being completely engulfed by German warbands. I used a simplified version of Pig Wars changing the combat and armour factors(+) a bit, and completely leaving out the morale checks, etc. At the top of each bound the Germans enter the board twice based on cordinates rolled on percentage dice. The table was a standard 48" x 72"....so if the die roles were a 37 and a 65, then the cordinates are measured out in inches and down goes a warband of 5 figures. This went on for 12 consecutive bounds giving a total of 120 Germans against the 3 cohorts of Romans (or 72 figures). The Romans really held their own and the game was a complete scream and nail biter until the very last die role. Alas, all the Eagles were captured and history repeats itself 2000 years later. Hope you enjoy the eye candy.

Romans stumble through the woods

First contact with the Germans

German generals deploy more warbands

Roman generals pray to their gods

Germans now on every side

More Germans coming from the woods

A big hero blocks the path

Romans fighting for their lives

One Roman cohort breaks free

Last man standing

Eagles inches from the tables edge of safety

More Germans arrive in time to deal the final blow

Very very nice.  The terrain looked really good, no wonder the Romans were confused.

I have not been to Enfilade for several years, (about 7).  It was always a great all historical convention.

Great looking game

WOW! vary nice table and set up, the pics also did a great job of telling of the Romens demise :)

I love the grass effect. I'm assuming that's fake "teddy bear fur" you used?

Great looking game - it's always a good thing to see some Romans in action  :D

I recognize the table set-up from your dinosaur-hunting game sometime ago.  I still love it.

Very nice. But I must say so as I'm sitting in the shadow of the Teutoburg Forest.

Great stuff - as with your Ice Age hunting game. Seemingly pure blood round there in Northern Germany, almost nothing changed in the appearance of those guys for a 10000 years...
Always wished myself to stage a game commemorating this battle in 2009. Only a few months spared...

Now this is a great-looking game. Even better that you used the Pig Wars rules. Well done, sir. Who manufactures the minis?
